What Katana is

Higgsfield released Katana on 8 Oct 2026 as "a new Higgsfield skill for Claude that makes video edits in Aura Farming, Motion, or Clipping styles from one reference photo".¹ Each edit takes up to 5 reference images of characters, products or clothing.¹ It runs on Higgsfield's models through the Higgsfield MCP connector, on the same account and the same credits as higgsfield.ai.²

The reference decides the shot order, how long each shot runs and where the cuts land on the music. Your photos decide who and what appears, and optional instructions say what to keep or change.² The finished video appears in the Claude chat and in your Higgsfield Assets.²

Katana and Claude Motion are not the same thing

Claude Motion is Anthropic's feature: Claude writes code that animates text, charts, shapes and images, and because it uses no video generation model it "doesn't create realistic footage or people".⁷ Anthropic lists it as a beta on Team and Enterprise plans.⁷ Higgsfield's launch post says Katana is "powered by Claude Motion",³ but Higgsfield's own setup guide asks only for the Higgsfield connector and a Higgsfield subscription and never mentions Claude Motion.² Neither company says whether Katana needs a Claude plan that includes Claude Motion.

Team or Enterprise: An Owner adds the connector for the organisation first; members then connect it themselves.⁶

Set it up in Claude

Higgsfield gives the same steps for claude.ai and Claude Desktop.² Anthropic says remote connectors are set up through your Claude account and connect from Anthropic's servers, even in Claude Desktop,⁶ so you add Higgsfield once. Higgsfield's guide calls the menu Settings → Connectors; Anthropic's help page now calls it Customize → Connectors.²⁶

Free, Pro or Max (claude.ai or Claude Desktop)

Open Customize → Connectors. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.⁶
Name it Higgsfield and paste the server URL.²
Click Connect, then sign in to Higgsfield. A Higgsfield authorisation window opens. If you are already logged in on higgsfield.ai, this step is automatic.²
Switch it on in your chat. Press + at the lower left of the message box, open Connectors and turn Higgsfield on for that conversation.⁶
Start Katana. Type /katana to open the preset catalogue, /katana/<preset-name> to run one preset, or ask in plain words, for example "make me an edit of this product using Higgsfield".²

Team or Enterprise

Only an Owner or Primary Owner can add the connector, in Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web; on Enterprise a custom role with "Manage access to Libraries" can too. Members then open Customize → Connectors, find Higgsfield and click Connect.⁶ Claude Motion is on by default on Team and off on Enterprise until an owner turns it on in Organization settings → Artifacts.⁷

The Katana page has three fields: Add a reference video, Add your characters, and Instructions (optional). The button "Send & Generate in Claude" passes that brief to a Claude chat, and "Install Higgsfield in Claude" handles first-time setup.² Higgsfield's changelog gives the short version: open the Katana page, pick a preset, upload your images, Recreate in Claude.¹

Before you upload: images attached directly in the Claude chat are not passed to Katana as references. Katana opens a Higgsfield upload window in the conversation instead. A direct link to a media file works; links to Instagram or TikTok profiles do not.²

The three styles

Higgsfield names three styles, Aura Farming, Motion and Clipping,¹ but publishes no length, format or example output for each. Here is what its own posts and videos show.

Aura Farming

Character edits. The launch post lists "aura-farming edits" among what Katana makes,³ and the blog names "an aura-farming clip" as a typical job.² Higgsfield's tutorial makes a first aura edit from a reference and turns a regular video into one.⁹

Motion

Motion graphics and product launch videos.³ The blog calls it "a motion-graphics intro".² ABAB News reports that Higgsfield said these graphics are made in Claude with code, not video generation,¹⁰ which is how Anthropic describes Claude Motion.⁷

Clipping

Short clips cut from long videos. Higgsfield's clipping tutorial turns films, podcasts and regular videos into short-form content, syncs edits to music, adds captions and makes batches of clips; one chapter turns a full movie into a 30-second teaser.⁹

The preset library has no Clipping category.⁴ Start from your own reference video.

The preset library is sorted differently, into Personalized edits (your characters or products placed into a finished edit), Style transfer (the reference's look carried onto your material) and Motion transfer (its movement carried over).² These don't line up one to one with the three styles.

Shape and photo limit come from each preset's listing; the shape is its demo video. Higgsfield says the finished MP4 follows the duration, aspect ratio and frame rate of the reference.² Commands use each preset's ID from Higgsfield's catalogue; its guide writes the form as /katana/<preset-name>, so if Claude doesn't recognise one, type /katana and pick it from the list.² Two untitled presets are left out, and the library changes as people share new ones.²

You can share your own preset from the Katana page: a 3 to 30 second video for the motion, up to 40 images and a prompt that mentions them with @. Shared presets go live straight away and can be taken down after reports.¹ That is what you supply to publish a preset, not what you need to use one.

What it costs

Katana has no price of its own. Higgsfield says it uses the credits of your existing plan, with no separate billing for MCP and no markup for running it in Claude, and that Claude shows a card with the exact credit cost before each generation.² Higgsfield does not publish how many credits one Katana edit uses.

Your price may differ. Higgsfield says plan tiers and credit allowances differ by region.² Another check of the page on the same day showed different plan names and prices, so look at it from your own country before you buy.
"Unlimited" doesn't apply here. "Unlimited models and Free Generations on plans are accessible only via higgsfield.ai and are not accessible on MCP/CLI, Canvas or Supercomputer."⁵ Katana runs through MCP, so every edit spends credits.
Revisions can cost more. Corrections that need new generations may add credits, and moderation may decline some generations.²
Set your own limit. A third-party guide notes there is no built-in spending cap and suggests telling Claude how many credits it may spend.¹¹
On the Claude side, Anthropic says Claude Motion animations count toward your Claude plan's usage limits;⁷ it says nothing specific about Katana chats.

Who it's for

Good fit

You already know the edit you want because you've seen it work: a product video in a proven format, a fashion edit with a set rhythm, an aura-farming clip or a motion-graphics intro.²
You need many versions. A second version with another character or product is one more message in the same chat.²
You already pay for Higgsfield and work in Claude.
You sell short clips. Higgsfield's own tutorial covers finding clipping clients among movie studios, streamers and podcasters.⁹

Skip it if

You don't have a reference yet. Higgsfield itself says another of its tools is a better starting point.²
You need a fixed price per clip. The credit cost per edit isn't published.
You need a layered project file. For Katana only an MP4 with a download button is documented.²
You were counting on your plan's unlimited models. They don't work through MCP.⁵
Your work Claude account has no Owner willing to add custom connectors.⁶

What can go wrong

/katana does nothing: The connector is probably off in this chat. Press +, open Connectors and switch Higgsfield on.⁶ If it isn't listed, add it again under Customize → Connectors.
There is no "Add custom connector" button: On Team and Enterprise only Owners can add connectors; ask yours to add it in Organization settings.⁶
Free plan won't take another connector: Free allows one custom connector. Remove the old one or upgrade.⁶
Katana ignores the photos you pasted: Images attached directly in the chat aren't passed to Katana. Use the Higgsfield upload window it opens.²
Your TikTok or Instagram link is refused: Profile links aren't accepted. Upload the file, or give a direct link to the media file.²
The video comes out the wrong shape: The output follows the reference's aspect ratio, and you can't set it separately in Claude.² For a 9:16 post, use a 9:16 reference or a vertical preset.
Credits drain faster than expected: Check the cost card Claude shows before each generation; corrections that need new generations add to it.²
A generation is declined: Higgsfield says moderation may decline some generations.² Change the reference or the photos and try again.
You don't own the reference: Higgsfield asks you to use a reference you own or have permission to use, including its music, footage, characters and logos.²
